Donald Thompson, 55, served 24 years, 10 months and 24 days in prison of a 40-year sentence for trafficking cocaine. He was released in April 2015. “Before I went to prison my 2 mains concerns were: making money and doing drugs. I didn’t care about nothing. All prisons are is a warehouse. They don’t want you to better yourself. I’ve only been out for 5 months, but it’s a different lifestyle. Now I feel like I have something to look forward to. And I know I don’t want to go back,” he said. “All the money you make from that stuff isn’t worth the time. It’s not the time you lose, it’s the family you lose.”
